6 Simple Things To Avoid After Meals

Sirinan · March 20, 2017 · Leave a Comment

There are several things we like to do after eating big meals like sleeping, taking a shower, drinking coffee or tea, eating dessert, and swimming. But did you know that it could cause harm to your health in a long run? Changing these simple lifestyles habits can make a massive change to your current health conditions. It can help to improve your digestive system and bowel movements, lower your risk of gastrointestinal problems, enhance nutrient absorption, and more. If you find yourself having these habits, perhaps it is time to make a change for your health and well-being. So, let’s see how these easy tips can help to promote good health and why is it important to you.

 [divider title=”1. Sleeping” style=”style6″ align=”left”/]

Do you feel sleepy after a big plate of rice? Well, you are not alone. Everyone feels sleepy after a big meal and all we want is to lie down somewhere comfortable. But unfortunately, it is very bad for your digestion. It could cause long-term gastrointestinal problems, heart burn, and acid reflux. So, it is best to wait for at least 15-30 minutes and then sleep or lie down on your couch.

Taking a shower immediately after your meals can cause harm to your body without you knowing it. A sudden change in your body temperature can  affect digestive system, blood pressure, and blood circulation. It is important to avoid taking a shower right after your dinner. A simple change can make a big difference.

 [divider title=”3. Drinking tea” style=”style6″ align=”left”/]

Drinking green tea, black tea, white tea, or coffee can reduce nutrient absorption. It can also wash out essential nutrients such as protein and iron. Not only that, tea and coffee contain a high amount of caffeine, which creates an acidic environment to your stomach, and thus negatively affects your digestive system. It can also cause constipation in some people. So, water would be a better alternative to drink after meals.

 [divider title=”4. Eating dessert” style=”style6″ align=”left”/]

Eating dessert or fruit platter after your meals can cause excessive gas, bloating, and flatulence. This could lead to abdominal pain and discomfort.  So, try to avoid eating dessert or fruits after your meals. If you’d like to have a bowl of fruit salad, you should eat it before meals. In addition to that, eating fruits before your meals can help your body to absorb vitamins and essential minerals better and more efficient. Also, it can promote healthy skin, good digestion, and relieve constipation.

 [divider title=”5. Swimming” style=”style6″ align=”left”/]

Moderate physical activities are an important part of healthy lifestyle. However, you should exercise at the right time. Going out for jogging, swimming, running or any kind of physical activities right after your meals can be a dangerous thing to do. It does not only directly affect your digestive system, but also cause poor nutrient absorption, stomach cramps, abdominal discomfort, stomach upsets, and nausea. So, try not to engage in any exercises after your meals. You should wait at least 30 minutes if you’d love to go for a walk or swimming.

 [divider title=”6. Loosening your belt” style=”style6″ align=”left”/]

Loosening your belt can be harmful to your stomach and intestines. It causes abdominal discomfort and urges overeating. In other words, you tend to eat more even if you are full. So, try to stop when you are full and do not loosen your belt to eat more. Otherwise, it can make you gain unhealthy weight and increase your waistline.

Try these simple tips and you will see the positive results. Do remember, a small step to take today can improve your health and quality of life.

Have a great day everyone
