Everyone loves to have a glass of fizzy soft drink, especially when you are very thirsty. The reason being is that soft drinks are everywhere, cheap, and taste good. However, soft drinks are more than just a fizzy and sweet drink. There are many health concerns that are directly linked with high consumption of soft drinks. This is because soft drinks can cause bone fractures, obesity, GI distress, malnutrition, diabetes, tooth decay, and are toxic to your body.  Therefore, you should learn to love some other healthy drinks that do not taste that bad, and yet are good for your heath. Check out the dangers of soft drinks and the reasons why you should stop drinking your fizzy drinks.

Soft drinks make your bones very fragile (osteoporosis) and cause bone fractures by reducing calcium absorption and deficiencies of minerals in your body. Carbonated drinks contain high amount of sugar, which is about 9 1/3 spoons of sugar per can. Excess sugar will however convert into fat, which is stored in your liver. This causes you to gain unhealthy weight. Yet, it also makes you feel sluggish and lack of energy.

  [divider title=”3. GI Distress” style=”style6″ align=”left”/]

Drinking fizzy drinks on an empty stomach causes stomach discomfort because it increases your stomach acid, and may cause acid reflux and severe gastric inflammation later on.

 [divider title=”4. Malnutrition” style=”style6″ align=”left”/]

Carbonated drinks are full of refined sugar, artificial flavours and colours, carbonated water, phosphoric acid, and caffeine. Basically, your body needs none of these wastes. They have a lack of nutrients and promote a poor immune system. They also cause deficiencies of essential minerals and calcium. Now you know why you should not drink carbonated drinks too often.

  [divider title=”5. Diabetes” style=”style6″ align=”left”/]

As mentioned above, soft drinks contain high amount of sugar, which causes spikes in  blood sugar and insulin resistance. High consumption of soft drinks can lead to type II diabetes. However, many people tend to choose so-called ‘Diet’ soft drinks, which are claimed sugar free. In fact, there are still a lot of sugar, but different type of sugar. It is aspartame or artificial sugar, which may cause cancer in long run. Aspartame is not only bad to your health, but it causes weight gain indirectly. This is because it interferes with leptin and ghrelin hormones, increases appetite and junk food cravings. So, do not fall into this trick and learn to love healthy options.

 [divider title=”6. Tooth decay” style=”style6″ align=”left”/]

High amount of sugar in soft drinks causes tooth decay because sugar feeds the bacteria in the mouth. It destroys protection layers on your teeth and weakens enamel. Not only that, phosphoric acid added to soft drinks also causes tooth rot and destroys inner layers of your teeth.

Soft drinks are packed with unwanted substances that are not needed by your body. They contain high in refined sugar, acids, artificial flavourings and colours, and sometime aspartame. They are simply just waste to your body, and you do not need them. If you feel like you are addicted to them, it is probably because of added caffeine. You must train your brain and slowly quite on them. You can do it!

I know it is your favourite drink but if it is not good for you, why do you want to continue drinking it? But just remember, even if soft drinks are considered unhealthy it does not necessarily mean that you should never consume them. But you should bare in mind, that in excess they bring negative consequences with them. However, you should only consume them in moderation. Love yourself and be healthy and happy. Your healthy journey starts right here right now. Make a change. Every decision you make always lead you to different paths in life. The decision is yours.
